Emirates Palace To Stage Camel Food Week
(14 April 2013)

If you are a lover of camel meat, then you had better starve yourself from now in order to enjoy a massive menu of such dishes which will soon be within your reach at the Emirates Palace Hotel.

The hotel has already prepared such a big menu for its unique camel food week to be held during April 14-20 at the sprawling hotel in Abu Dhabi as part of its ongoing efforts to attract more visitors to the emirate.

Participants in the event could be surprised when they see the long list of dishes which will be available for them. They include not only grilled and friend camel meat, but camel shawarma, camel stew and camel pies, mainly camel roll with pine nut, raisin and hallomi cheese.

Visitors can also enjoy camel steak, camel mossaka, grilled camel meat, especially the delicious kabab, as well as camel scaloppini with spinach and goat cheese, camel salona with vegetables, camel brochettes with garlic and rosemary sauce and many other dishes and beverages.

Emirates Palace, a key monument of Abu Dhabi, called this event “camel promotion” week, a rare delicacy event in the region.

Camel meat is one of the most popular dishes in the Gulf, which has the largest number of camels in the Arab region.

A research conducted recently by Sultan Qaboos University in Oman in collaboration with a Western research house showed came meat is superior to most other kinds of meat as the camel is distinguished from other animals by the fact that the percentage of its intramuscular fat declines as the animal gets older.

This quality, only found in camels, makes their meat less fatty, so its consumption is healthy and recommended for weight loss.

“This quality also reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis since it lowers the percentage of cholesterol in the blood.”

According to the study, camel meat has other medical qualities like protecting against cancerous tumors because it contains unsaturated fatty acids like linoleic acid which interact with other unsaturated fatty acids taken from vegetable oils to protect against cancer.

Other health benefits of camel meat include treatment of exhaustion and fatigue, support of the work of nerve cells, prevention of obesity and heart diseases and treatment for cold and sciatica, stroke, cancer, and infections.

“Camel meat is also known for its high percentage of iron, one of the basic ingredients of blood hemoglobin which helps to reduce the risk of anemia. People suffering from anemia are advised to take camel meat.”

The study added:”Our ancestors used camel meat for curing seasonal fever, sciatica and shoulder pain, as well as for removing freckles by placing hot meat slices on the freckled area. Camel meat soup was used to cure corneal opacity and to strengthen eyesight, while its fat was used to ease hemorrhoid pain.”
